These Are the Most Popular Baby Names of 2015
Sophia, meet Jackson. These two baby names were the most popular of the year, according to the parenting website . Sophia has stayed the on the playground for six years running (in fact, it's the !), and Jackson has been the must-have name for three straight years.
According to BabyCenter, the top names tend to be pretty stable for three to five years. "Sophia has been a powerhouse for six years, thanks to the variety of spelling options and the multi-ethnic, multi-language appeal of the name," Linda Murray, editor in chief of BabyCenter, said in an announcement. "I predict Jackson's popularity will be more fleeting. We'll likely have a new number-one boys' name next year."
Emma and Olivia were in second and third place for the fourth straight year, while Madison beat out Madelyn to crack the top 10. (Madelyn is now in 13th place.) As for the boys, the list barely budged, with Logan and Jacob simply swapping spots in ninth and tenth places. Keep in mind that the list combines names that are spelled different ways but sound the same, so Jackson also counts Jaxon, and Sophia also counts Sofia.
The website uses data from more than 340,000 American babies, thanks to user information registered on their website every year and an annual survey asking new parents about why they chose the names they did.
