During pregnancy, folic acid is required for the normal development of the nervous system of the fetus, for the prevention of stillbirth, miscarriages, prevention of the risk of malformations (anencephaly, hydrocephalus, cerebral hernia, congenital malformations), mental and physical retardation. This substance prevents the appearance of pathologies of the spinal column, defects of the circulatory system, defects “cleft lip” or “cleft palate”. Folic acid is required for the formation of the placenta, the growth of the embryo, the transmission of inherited traits.
Taking “Folacin” during pregnancy prevents the development of a lack of folic acid in the body, the appearance of megaloblastic anemia, toxicosis, depression,is a means of preventing the appearance of defects of the neural tube in the fetus. The drug is prescribed to pregnant women in case of prolonged use of folic acid antagonists (combination of Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim, Methotrexate), anticonvulsant drugs (Primidon, Phenytoin, Phenobarbital).
Other indications for taking Folacin are: treatment and prevention of folic acid deficiency in case of inadequate or unbalanced nutrition, treatment and prevention of anemia with folic acid deficiency. The drug is prescribed for hyperchromic macrocytic anemia, leukopenia and anemia caused by taking certain drugs or ionizing radiation.
How to take "Folacin"
In the treatment or prevention of folic acid deficiency, various dosages of Folacin are prescribed. In order to prevent fetal neural tube defects in the fetus, take 2.5 mg of the drug per day for 4 weeks before the intended pregnancy. Reception "Folatsina" continued during the 1st trimester of pregnancy in the same dose. With megaloblastic anemia, the daily dose of the drug can be 5 mg.
